Meeting #815 "Election"

Yesterday was the last day of Hari Raya, but our house will always be open here at TMIKL, and today was no exception. Today's meeting was made all the more merrier with visitors from Unirazak TM and One World TM. Always good to meet new and old friends alike.

There are two things that are taboo at any Toastmasters meeting, politics and religion. And they say life is not worth it if not lived on the edge, which was exactly what we did today, with the theme of "Elections". Safe to say that today's meeting is not for the faint of heart.

The meeting went underway with TM Anthony taking the role of TME and it was safe to say that everyone felt at home after his introductions.

The first project speaker of the evening was TM Selvamalar whose speech, titled "My First Love", was filled with emotions and ending twist fitting of a Hollywood movie. TM Emily then delivered a speech titled "Moving Forward", which entails her trials and tribulations as a chambering student in a law firm. DTM Cyril then took the stage with a humorous speech, "Nerves, Friend or Foe?," which left us convinced that, in his case at least, were his best friends. ACS CL Jeremy concluded the project speeches with a management speech on "Organising a Toastmasters Club Contest."

The table topic session was a unique one today. Following the theme of "Elections", all topics involve the speaker role-playing in the role of various world leaders including those of the United States, Britain, Russia, and our beloved Malaysia. Taboo lines were pushed but none were crossed, and everyone was laughing with none offended. Disaster averted!

Thank you those who came today, especially our friends from Unirazak TM and One World TM. Anyone interested in self-development through public speaking is welcome to join our next meeting on 8 August 2017 (hard to find a more auspicious day than that to join a Toastmaster meeting!), at our usual venue, Menara Centara.
