Speech of the Week

From the movie "Any Given Sunday"
Al Pacino inspires the group of football players.

TMIKL. Go for it!

What a way to start the term by having the term "Go For It".
For once we had more members than guests in a long long while.
Don't get us wrong, we are proud of it. In fact, we believe in the expression "the more, the merrier"

The meeting started on time, although I did not arrive on time.
In typical TMIKL style, we had changes, embraced them, and improvised.
Yes, we TMIKL-ians are Masters of Improvisation.

Cyril Jonas, our Past President became the Sergent At Arms as Louis Gan, our SAA could not make it.

While Sandra Ghouse took the challenge of being the Table Topics Master with just a few minutes notice. Talk about inpromtu preparations.

We had a few TableTopics contestants:
- Myself (Sidney Ng)
- Cyril Jonas
- Emily
-Lorna
- Lucy
- Sok Ling
- Michael

We had 2 great assignment speeches, Michael Oon, a veteran Toastmaster, with his folk story of The Brahmin, Jackal and the Tiger (or something along those lines). Next, we had a heartwarming speech by our newest and upcoming speaker, Chong Wai Chee, barely in her 3rd speech, she has managed to capture our attention.

The meeting went on time. We finally had a winner for our Table Topics, ::drumroll:: it was none other than one of our Guests from KL Advanced Toastmasters Club, Lorna Fisher. She inspired us with Carpe Diem, or Seizing the Day. I think that went quite well with our theme Go For It!

Our next meeting will be on 11th August 2009, same time (7.45pm) , same place (Banker's Club, AMODA Building, Jln Imbi).
We hope to see you there on the 11th!

TMI KL's Humorous Speech Contest 2009

Everyone wants to be funny.

Many try.

Few succeed.

TMIKL just recently held its Humorous and Evaluation Contest on the 14th of July 2009.

With a room filled with eager Toastmasters and Guests, the event started with the Chairperson giving his Opening Speech and introducing the contestants. Despite having only 2 contestants of the Humorous Speech Contest, Mas Rizal, our Club President and Ismail Omar, a veteran Toastmaster; we are assured of a square fight.

Mas Rizal gave a profound speech on taking care of his newborn son, Daniel which hit a few familiar notes with parents and provides a quirky outlook of being a new parent. His experiences with his son left the floor in stitches.
Ismail Omar gave took the floor down memory lane to his experiences with sports. With his rendition of how “handphones” were like back in his time, he gave the floor a good laugh while relating his various childhood experiences.

After the break, we were educated on Getting Along in a Relationship by Penny Chin, from ITC Bintang Toastmasters. This brought the meeting to the start of the Speech Evaluation Contest. She was evaluated by the contestants – Mas Rizal, Elizabeth Xavier, Richard Toh, Ismail Omar and Emily Tan who did a speech evaluation for the first time.

Many insights were shared and all the participants did extremely well in being constructive and supportive in giving out evaluations.

The night ended with prize giving session with the crowning of our winners:

Humorous Speech Contest: Mas Rizal

Speech Evaluation Contest: Elizabeth Xavier
