Meeting #815 "Election"

Yesterday was the last day of Hari Raya, but our house will always be open here at TMIKL, and today was no exception. Today's meeting was made all the more merrier with visitors from Unirazak TM and One World TM. Always good to meet new and old friends alike.

There are two things that are taboo at any Toastmasters meeting, politics and religion. And they say life is not worth it if not lived on the edge, which was exactly what we did today, with the theme of "Elections". Safe to say that today's meeting is not for the faint of heart.

The meeting went underway with TM Anthony taking the role of TME and it was safe to say that everyone felt at home after his introductions.

The first project speaker of the evening was TM Selvamalar whose speech, titled "My First Love", was filled with emotions and ending twist fitting of a Hollywood movie. TM Emily then delivered a speech titled "Moving Forward", which entails her trials and tribulations as a chambering student in a law firm. DTM Cyril then took the stage with a humorous speech, "Nerves, Friend or Foe?," which left us convinced that, in his case at least, were his best friends. ACS CL Jeremy concluded the project speeches with a management speech on "Organising a Toastmasters Club Contest."

The table topic session was a unique one today. Following the theme of "Elections", all topics involve the speaker role-playing in the role of various world leaders including those of the United States, Britain, Russia, and our beloved Malaysia. Taboo lines were pushed but none were crossed, and everyone was laughing with none offended. Disaster averted!

Thank you those who came today, especially our friends from Unirazak TM and One World TM. Anyone interested in self-development through public speaking is welcome to join our next meeting on 8 August 2017 (hard to find a more auspicious day than that to join a Toastmaster meeting!), at our usual venue, Menara Centara.

Meeting #814 "The Slate is Clean Again"

It was the first meeting of our new term today. Usually, that would have been a special occasion itself, but more so this time. Today we also have a new place to call home! From today onwards, we will conduct our meetings at:

Level 21, Menara Centara
360 Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman
50100 Kuala Lumpur

It has been a while since TMIKL moved our home. From a quick research, yours truly found that the last time it happened was circa 1994. 23 years ago!

And what better way to start our new meeting, of the new term, at a new location, than an induction of new members. We were honoured to welcome 6 new members into our club today, and wish for this to be start of something special for all of them.

You would think that there could only be so many new things one could announce in a single blog post. Usually, that would be the end of it, but this is a special occasion.

Our meeting proceeded with the installation of new Club Officers for the 2017/18 term. It would be a crass act to thank oneself, but yours truly would like to extend gratitude to the rest of the club officers for taking the role:

President: Rhoda Omar, ACB, ALB
V-P Education: Mohd Ehsan Ahmad Fami
V-P Membership: Shaheen J. Syed
V-P Public Relations: Razwan I. Rashidi
Secretary: Kimberly Teh
Treasurer: Ismail Omar, DTM
Sergeant-At-Arms: Cyril Jonas, DTM
Immediate Past President: Jeremy Teo, ACS, CL

All the best in performing your duties and maintaining the high standards set by the previous Club Officers!

All that formality doesn't come with any drawback though. As a result, our meeting agenda was cut shorter than usual. We had to do away with table topics this week.

With only the bare essentials (some of our properties were yet to be moved), DTM Ismail Omar took the role as TME and proved that you don't need much to make a Toastmasters meeting exciting. Like how Lionel Messi would be if bare-footed, still world class!

Special mention goes to TM Marko Chong for completing his Ice-breaker Speech today. TM Marko took the stage and inspired us all with stories about what drove him to take this journey. Congratulations on your ice-breaker TM Marko, and thank you for reminding us about why we're all on this journey together.

The following project speakers were no less impressive either. One would think we have seen all the faces of TM Ehsan, but he proved the exact opposite with a special speech on masks which showed a kaleidoscope of emotions. TM Kai Xuan gripped us with tales of his (mis)adventures in Barcelona that went like an Agatha Christie classic. TM Kimberly took on the often avoided topic of what our choices would be at the end of life, and made it insightful in the way that only she could.

We also had the pleasure of having ACG CL Gerard Peter (as General Evaluator), DTM Victor Ong, ACB ALB Ong Mei Lin, and TM Madhu Krishnamurthy. Safe to say, all of us left the meeting slightly a better person than when we came in.

If you're interested in improving yourself through public speaking, we'd love to hear from you. Please drop us a line or come to our next meeting on 25 July 2017.

25th April 2017 Meeting #809 "Better Late Then Never"

Photo taken after our Meeting on 25th April 2017

We got our 4th CC and 10th DCP at the same time.

Others may fly though their CC manual in 3 months. Some may take 13 years to finally get around to doing it. It does not matter, as long as you persevere to go the distance. On this day we celebrate our TM Richard Toh who finally completed his CC#10 Speech. He Inspired us with his words of wisdom "Better late then Never".
Well done Richard CC, CL.

Picture taken from Google Image

Our theme for meeting #804 is Love Never Fails. Since Valentine's day is just around the corner, share with us your 1st love, puppy love, unrequited love, the one who got away, the one who was just not meant to be, the love of your life, or any type of love that shook the earth.

Do you know in ancient Greece, love had been categorized into Eros, Philia, Ludus, Pragma, Agape, Philautia and Storge? See you later.

Meeting #803. The Season of Reunion

Chinese New Year is almost here. For some, we look forward to once a year reunion dinner with relatives from far. For others, this could already be their 9th or 10th and counting "Lou Sang" dinner.

How do you plan to celebrate this festive season and long holiday? Join us at our meeting tomorrow, 24th January 2017, 7:30p.m at Bankers club, Jalan Imbi and tell everyone about it.

See you there!

Meeting #802. You can't say you can't

New year, new resolution, new goals or just old wine in a new bottle?

Whatever you reasons for coming to TMIKL's meeting, if you set out to do something, you are not alone, we will help you to get there!

Just like you can't say you can't achieve anything by joining Toastmasters, we at TMIKL can't say we can't help you to be a champion speaker, because we want to, we are there for the long haul and we can help you become who you want to be!

Don't say you can't make it to the meeting tonight, because you can, you want to and you know we can help you if you let us. See you tonight!
